Mitchell Starc of the Kolkata Knight Riders surprised Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday during the powerplay of the IPL 2024 Qualifier 1 with a three-wicket burst. On the opening ball of the game, he removed the dangerous Travis Head by taking a wicket.
With breathtaking elegance, the Australians dismissed their countryman and sent him back for a two-ball duck. To outfox Head, Starc bowled a full-length delivery that slightly shifted in the last moments.
Abhishek Sharma, Head’s partner, was out for 3 from 4 balls in the next over after being out for 0 from 2 balls. Vaibhav Arora was caught by Andre Russell as he attempted to force a length ball through covers, and he was dismissed.
But Starc’s destruction in the powerplay didn’t stop there. In the fifth over, he also removed Shahbaz Ahmed and Nitish Reddy off consecutive balls. Rahmanullah Gurbaz caught Reddy behind, while Ahmed was bowled following a thick inside edge.
The game that is currently in progress will determine who advances to the final, which is set for this Sunday, May 26. Conversely, the loser of the match between the Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face the winner of the eliminator.
