The Adelaide Test began with “disastrous” news for India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was demolished on the first ball of the match by Australian pacer Mitchell Starc. The ball was full on Jaiswal’s pads and got him trapped before the wickets with the sound of the ball hitting the pads. Having scored a century in the Perth Test, the Indian opener left the field without adding a single run to India’s score. Early on, it puts pressure on the batting lineup to perform well.
India made three changes in playing XI for the second test. Captain Rohit Sharma, who missed the first test, came back into the fold along with Shubman Gill and Ravichandran Ashwin from Washington Sundar, Devdutt Padikkal, and Dhruv Jurel, while Scott Boland replaced Josh Hazlewood in the hosts’ XI. The match is being staged at the Adelaide Oval, a venue where India has been mixed on record.

On Friday at the Adelaide Oval, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc began the second Test with his dream. With his very first delivery of the day-night Test, the southpaw paceman trapped Yashasvi Jaiswal, the highest-ranked Test batter in India, in front of the wickets. Jaiswal made a duck, which is the second in the ongoing five-match Test series. He had scored a duck off an eight-ball in the first innings of the first Test at Perth.
However, Jaiswal was disinclined to take a review because the ball had clearly struck the stumps. After a brief discussion with KL Rahul, Jaiswal walked back to the pavilion, leaving India 0/1.
Starc’s early strike meant Australia was now looking to cash in on that momentum. India, however, had to regroup and could try to build something towards drawing back into the game.
India: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (WK), Rohit Sharma (C), Nitish Reddy, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harshit Rana, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
