Mohammad Shami provided a dream start for Lucknow Super Giants in their IPL 2026 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday, April 5. The experienced pacer struck twice in quick succession, removing Abhishek Sharma for a silver duck and Travis Head (7 off 8), leaving his former side struggling at 8/2 inside three overs.

Shami dismissed Abhishek off the final ball of the first over, bowling a slower delivery outside off. The left-hander went for an aggressive drive but only managed a thick edge, which flew to short third where Manimaran Siddharth pulled off a sharp diving catch.

In his very next over, Shami struck again to remove Head. He bowled a short-of-a-length delivery on off stump with a scrambled seam at 121 kmph. Head attempted to push at it but lost control, sending a soft shot towards mid-off, where Aiden Markram dived forward to complete a low catch.

This marks Mohammad Shami’s first outing against Sunrisers Hyderabad since being traded to Lucknow Super Giants last year for his base price of INR 10 lakh.

Mohammad Shami dents Sunrisers Hyderabad with the early double strike

A disciplined bowling effort, spearheaded by Mohammad Shami, put Lucknow Super Giants in firm control against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their IPL 2026 clash. Earlier, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to field first. At the time of writing, SRH were struggling at 26/3 after seven overs, with Liam Livingstone and Heinrich Klaasen at the crease.

Ishan Kishan was the latest to depart, bowled by Prince Yadav. LSG hold a 4-2 advantage over SRH in head-to-head encounters, although the Hyderabad-based side registered a six-wicket win in their previous meeting.

The Pant-led LSG side began their campaign with a six-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals. Meanwhile, SRH bounced back strongly after an opening defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, securing a convincing 65-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders.
