Team India cricketer Mohammed Shami was at his mighty best in the second ODI against New Zealand on Saturday, January 21 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. His performance led India to a clinical win, and take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match ODI series. The pacer’s delivery to dismiss Kiwi opener Finn Allen left the fans and experts impressed.

Mohammed Shami opened the bowling for India after skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first. He was right on the money, conceding no run in the first four deliveries. On the fourth delivery, the right-arm pacer bowled an inswinger, which nipped back in late, as Allen tried to flick the delivery. The ball crashed onto the middle stump, getting India off to a flying start.

I just focus on maintaining the right lines and lengths: Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami got things underway for Team India with a wicket-maiden over. He finished the match with bowling figures of 3/18 in six overs at an economy rate of 3. Washington Sundar and Hardik Pandya also picked a couple of wickets each. New Zealand was bowled out on 108 runs. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Mohammed Shami said,

“Whenever I start, I just focus on maintaining the right lines and lengths. But it does happen sometimes that you bowl well and yet don’t get wickets. On other days you may not be in rhythm, and will still get wickets. That happens. I feel that the more you work with the ball in practice, the more success will come. I never thought I’d get to have a proper seam position and it gives me the joy to see the seam upright as it goes in the air. As a new-ball bowler, it’s important to assess the conditions and pass the message quickly to the other bowlers as well.”
