A video has recently gone viral which shows the bond of CSK fans with MS Dhoni. Chennai fans fondly call him ‘Thala’ which means head or leader in Tamil. However, 2 days ahead of the IPL 2022 season, Dhoni made an announcement which left many fans heartbroken.
Dhoni handed over the CSK captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja. The franchise, through a media release confirmed the news. Jadeja will only be the third player to lead CSK, after Dhoni and Suresh Raina. The southpaw admitted that Dhoni’s shoes would be big ones to fill.
“Feeling good but at the same time I need to fill in the big boots like Mahi bhai’s. He has already set big legacy and I need to carry forward that. I don’t need to worry too much because he is here so whenever I have a question to ask I will definitely go to him.”, Jadeja said.
IPL 2022 season opener against KKR will be the first match for Jadeja as the skipper. CSK players were returning to their hotel rooms after a practice session ahead of the game.
As MS Dhoni was walking up the stairs, a fan called him and said “Thala, You Will Always Be My Captain”. Dhoni acknowledged him by waving his hand.

MS Dhoni’s stellar record as CSK Captain
The love also goes vice-versa. Dhoni has frequently talked about the importance of fans for the CSK franchise. When the team made a comeback in 2018 after 2-year ban, the former CSK captain was seen getting emotional in the pre-season event.
MS Dhoni has a great record as CSK captain. Under his leadership, the team won 4 IPL and 2 Champions League (CLT20) titles. The Super Kings have reached the finals 9 times, which is a record. Except the 2020 season, they have reached the playoffs of the IPL every time.
