Chennai Super Kings’ stalwart and captain, MS Dhoni, has commenced his preparations for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Given speculations suggesting that this might be Dhoni’s farewell season in the IPL, his recent appearance at a practice session has ignited excitement among fans and cricket enthusiasts alike.

Reports hint at the 17th edition of this lucrative league kickstarting by the end of March 2024, although official dates remain unconfirmed. A viral video circulating on various social media platforms showcases the iconic five-time IPL champion, Dhoni, diligently training in the nets.

The 42-year-old legend was easily recognizable in his classic attire: yellow pads, a blue helmet, and a sleeveless black t-shirt. While initial speculations postulated that Dhoni might hang up his IPL boots after the 2023 season, this recent footage has breathed fresh hope into the hearts of CSK supporters worldwide.

Adding clarity to the situation, CSK’s CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, shed light on Dhoni’s status for the 2024 season. After undergoing knee surgery after IPL 2023, concerns arose about the cricketing maestro’s future participation. However, all doubts were dispelled when Dhoni’s name prominently featured in the franchise’s retention list, signalling his intent and commitment to continue gracing the IPL with his unparalleled skills.

This affirmation has not only solidified the anticipation for Dhoni’s performance but has also sent waves of enthusiasm throughout the cricketing community, eagerly awaiting his masterful displays in the forthcoming season.

He said: “He (Dhoni) is doing well now. He has started his rehab. He started working in the gym. And, probably in another ten days, he’ll also start working in the nets. We are planning for a camp somewhere by the first week of March. The IPL season is likely to start by the 22nd of March. So, we will have our first camp by the first week in Chennai.”
