The incident occurred in the fourth over of the Knights’ run chase when Logan van Beek bowled a short-length delivery outside off. Clarke attempted to scoop it over mid-wicket, and Smith covered a considerable distance from mid-on to deep mid-wicket to secure the remarkable catch, leaving spectators in awe.

Northern Knights secured a seven-wicket victory over Wellington in the Super Smash on Monday, thanks to a clinical bowling performance. Wellington asked to bat first, was dismissed for 102 in 18.3 overs. Scott Kuggeleijn, Zak Gibson, and Matthew Fisher each took two wickets, while Kristian Clarke, Tim Pringle, and Fredrick Walker claimed one wicket each.

Nathan Smith top-scored with 26 runs off 21 deliveries, featuring one six and three boundaries. Jesse Tashkoff, Logan van Beek, and Peter Younghusband were the other three batsmen to reach double digits. The Northern Knights efficiently pursued the target in a mere 15.3 overs. Captain Jeet Raval played a key role with the bat, contributing 32 runs off 28 balls, featuring one six and three boundaries.

Henry Cooper also made a valuable contribution with 25 runs off 26 balls, while Peter Bocock and Brett Hampton remained unbeaten with scores of 16 and 15 (11) runs respectively, both at a run-a-ball pace. Securing this win marked the Northern Knights’ second triumph of the season. Despite this success, they remain at the bottom of the Super Smash points table, having only two wins in seven games.

Meanwhile, Wellington, despite the loss, slipped to the second spot with five wins in nine matches. Looking ahead, the Knights are set to compete against Canterbury on January 18, while Wellington will face off against Canterbury on January 22.
