Australian skipper Pat Cummins got the better of South Africa’s Kyle Verreynne, trapping him lbw for 13 on Day 2 of the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s. The delivery struck Verreynne on the knee roll, and although the on-field umpire initially ruled it not out, Cummins immediately went for the review.
Hawk-Eye confirmed all three reds, overturning the decision and sending the wicketkeeper-batter back to the pavilion. The breakthrough pushed South Africa into trouble at 126/6 in the 52nd over, still trailing Australia’s first-innings total of 212 by 86 runs. You can watch the video here:

While appealing for the lbw, Cummins accidentally collided with Verreynne and fell to the ground, but quickly got back up to opt for the review. It turned out to be his third wicket of the innings and second on Day Two, having earlier removed South African captain Temba Bavuma for 36 during the morning session.

Kyle Verreynne‘s dismissal was quickly followed by Marco Jansen’s wicket, as he was caught and bowled by Pat Cummins for a duck in the 52nd over. With South Africa struggling, the responsibility fell on David Bedingham to either anchor the innings with the lower order or launch a counterattack to ease the pressure on his team.
Cummins received strong support from Mitchell Starc, who removed Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton on Day One. Josh Hazlewood chipped in with the wicket of Tristan Stubbs, who managed just two runs. Bedingham was later joined by Keshav Maharaj, with only Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi left to bat.
At the time of writing, South Africa were reeling at 137/9 after 57 overs, with Cummins completing his five-wicket haul by dismissing Bedingham for 45, caught behind by Alex Carey.
