[WATCH] Prithvi Shaw Faces Bizarre Dismissal After Hits His Own Stumps

A video has emerged on social media showing Prithvi Shaw encountering an awkward fall while attempting a shot during his 34-run performance against Gloucestershire in the group B match. Prithvi Shaw, a promising young talent, who hasn’t been part of the national cricket team since July 2021, had an ordinary start to his inaugural appearance in the English county cricket scene.

The 23-year-old, who had been left out by selectors for the India tour of the Windies and the Asian Games 2023 following a disappointing outing in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL), marked his debut for Northamptonshire in the Royal London One Day Cup on Friday, an unfortunately unconventional ending for him.

Facing a target of 279 runs for victory, Northamptonshire faced a disastrous beginning as they lost their initial five wickets with just 30 runs on the board in the 10th over. Shaw, in partnership with captain Lewis McManus, attempted to stabilize their team’s precarious situation.

However, their hard-earned 24-run alliance concluded with the out-of-favour Indian batsman being dismissed in a perplexing manner.

During the final delivery of the 16th over, Prithvi Shaw (scoring 34) endeavoured to execute a hook shot against Gloucestershire’s bowler Paul van Meekeren’s bouncer. Regrettably, he lost his balance and fell awkwardly, accidentally striking his stumps on the way down. A couple of Gloucestershire players extended their assistance to help him back up. The official Twitter account of the tournament shared the video of the incident.

Anticipating his debut in the Royal London One Day Cup for Northamptonshire, Shaw had expressed confidence that his entry into the English county cricket arena would be an incredible one.

Shaw made an exclusive statement: “It’s a great opportunity for me and I’m really thankful to Northamptonshire for giving me this chance to express myself here, It’s going to be amazing I think and I’m really looking forward to it”
