In the midst of rain-drenched training, Prithvi Shaw, the talented Indian batsman, sent a subtle message to the selectors following his omission from the Indian T20I squad for the West Indies tour and the Asian Games.
Shaw, a right-handed opener, posted a video on Instagram displaying his dedication to honing his batting skills even in unfavourable weather conditions. Having made his solitary T20I appearance for India against Sri Lanka in 2021, Shaw earned a recall to the national squad for the home series against New Zealand earlier in the year.
However, despite being in contention, he did not get a chance to showcase his talent during the series, and subsequently, he was dropped from the squad for the away series against West Indies.
During IPL 2023, Shaw’s performances with the Delhi Capitals were not as outstanding as he hoped. Nevertheless, he managed to make an impact with a match-winning half-century during the tournament’s final phase against the Punjab Kings.
In an interview with Cricbuzz and Wisden, Shaw opened up about various aspects of his life and career, including the experience of being dropped from the national team.
The BCCI did not inform Prithvi Shaw about the reason for his exclusion from the squad
He revealed that the BCCI did not inform him about the specific reason for his exclusion. Later, he heard from others that his fitness might have been a factor.
The former India U-19 captain expressed his disappointment at not receiving a chance to represent his country in the T20 format. Despite this setback, he remained resilient and determined to prove himself. Shaw underwent fitness tests at the NCA (National Cricket Academy) in Bengaluru and demonstrated his prowess by scoring runs in domestic cricket.
He successfully earned a comeback to the T20 squad but, to his dismay, once again found himself sidelined during the West Indies tour.

In the video shared on social media, he showcased his dedication to the game, even amidst challenging weather conditions. The rain-soaked training session displayed his commitment to improving and fighting for a place in the national team.
Recently, Shaw participated in the Duleep Trophy, representing West Zone. During the final against South Zone, he scored a crucial half-century. Unfortunately, his effort did not result in victory for his team.
His determination and perseverance, evident in his rain-drenched practice session, exemplify his passion for the sport and his unwavering desire to reclaim his spot in the national team.
