[WATCH] Rashid Khan Gives Fiery Send-Off To GT Teammate In T20 World Cup 2026

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan produced a fiery moment against his Gujarat Titans (GT) teammate Glenn Phillips during their T20 World Cup 2026 encounter with New Zealand. The match took place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, February 8.

Batting first, Afghanistan put up a strong total of 182/6. While chasing, New Zealand suffered a major setback in the tenth over when Rashid removed a well-set Phillips. Delivering a full ball on off stump, Rashid tempted Phillips to step out and go inside-out, but the batter lost control and dragged the ball back onto his stumps.

Phillips completely lost his balance as Afghanistan celebrated a crucial breakthrough. Clearly pumped up after dismissing his GT teammate, Rashid Khan couldn’t hide his emotions and followed it up with a fiery send-off, staring angrily at the departing batter.

Phillips made 42 runs from 25 deliveries, striking seven boundaries and one six at an impressive strike rate of 168.

Rashid Khan Wins Personal Battle Against Glenn Phillips

Rashid Khan eventually came out on top in his face-off with Glenn Phillips. The intense send-off was the result of earlier frustration, with the New Zealand batter having attacked the Afghanistan skipper aggressively. In the seventh over, Phillips struck Rashid for a six and a four on successive deliveries.

When Rashid returned to bowl the tenth over, Phillips continued his assault, hitting him for two more boundaries in a row. However, the Afghanistan captain finally turned the tables by dismissing Phillips, a moment that sparked an animated and emotional celebration.

Despite Rashid winning that individual contest, New Zealand went on to claim the match. They comfortably chased the 183-run target, overcoming a brief scare to finish the job in 17.5 overs with five wickets to spare.

Afghanistan will next take on South Africa on February 11, where Rashid and his side will be eager to recover from their opening defeat.
