Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin lost his cool at the umpire during the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 match between Dindigul Dragons and IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, held in Coimbatore on Sunday. A video aired by Star Sports showed the Dragons skipper visibly frustrated, even striking his pad with the bat after being given out lbw for 18 runs.
The incident took place in the fifth over, bowled by left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore. Attempting a paddle sweep, Ashwin failed to connect as the ball struck his pad. After a brief pause, the umpire signaled him out. Ashwin, visibly unhappy, had a discussion with the umpire over the decision. Unfortunately, the team had no reviews available to challenge the call.

Dindigul Dragons Crumble As Ashwin Among Few To Reach Double Digits
The Dindigul Dragons were in deep trouble against the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, having lost nine wickets, with skipper Ravichandran Ashwin being one of just three players to score in double digits. Although their innings had a decent start at 39 for the first wicket, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals thereafter. The team was eventually dismissed for just 93 runs in 16.2 overs.
Essakimutthu A emerged as the standout bowler, claiming 4 wickets for 26 runs in his four overs. Sai Kishore contributed with two wickets, while M Mathivannan took three. Ashwin’s struggles have continued in the 2025 IPL, where he couldn’t live up to the ₹9.75 crore price tag paid by Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
In nine games, he managed to pick up only seven wickets at an average of 40.43. He had earlier announced his international retirement during the Brisbane Test against Australia last year. Ashwin ended his Test career as India’s second-highest wicket-taker with 537 wickets in 106 matches and also scored six centuries.
