[WATCH]- Ravindra Jadeja Scores 86 Before Being Dismissed By Taskin Ahmed In The 2024 IND vs BAN 1st Test

Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja fell short of his century by 14 runs in the first innings of the Test series opener against Bangladesh at Chepauk on Friday, September 20. He was dismissed by Taskin Ahmed in the third over of Day 2.

In Thursday’s match, the home side was dangerously placed at 144/6 before Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin struck up a mammoth 199-run partnership for the seventh wicket that averted the impending disaster.

When Day 1 ended, Ashwin remained not out on 102 while Jadeja was at bat with 86. The expectation was therefore high for them to carry on with their partnerships; however Taskin bowled well and troubled both batsmen initially but later had his reward when he dismissed Jadeja.

A length ball was delivered that was quite short and it moved away at an angle away from the batter. Jadeja did not move his legs and only played it away by poking his bat outside. A good edge came off the left-hander’s bat and Litton Das took an easy catch behind him.

On his way back to the dressing room, Ravindra Jadeja seemed to be unhappy as he missed out on scoring a century again. You can watch the video here:

At such time as the pitcher dismissed him, Akash Deep came to bat. The ninth batsman contributed significantly by scoring 17 runs from 30 balls before hitting a poor shot off Taskin Ahmed. As of now, India is on 371/8 and Jasprit Bumrah is batting with Ashwin who has made a century.

“His ball striking makes him an asset” – Wasim Jaffer praises Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja, who was born in Saurashtra, has always been the team’s savior with bat every times there is a quick collapse for India, be it at home or abroad. And yet again he showed his worth with another timely innings of 86 runs.

Jadeja was praised by former cricketer Wasim Jaffer for an important innings that helped to save the Men in Blue.

“One of the most improved Test batters,” Jaffer wrote on Instagram. “His temperament and ability to leave the ball make him ideal in case of a rescue job and his ball striking makes him an asset when the need is to hammer home the advantage. Another invaluable knock. Well played @royalnavghan 👏🏻#INDvBAN.”

Following his strong batting performance, Jadeja will now seek to demonstrate his skills with the ball as India aims for a commanding 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
