During a match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a fan was seen carrying the jersey of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the reigning champions of the Indian Premier League. The 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 23rd edition of the tournament, is being co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The fan was present at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, one of the official host cities for the tournament. The Bengaluru-based franchise enjoyed a dominant campaign in IPL 2026. Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished at the top of the league standings with nine victories and 18 points from 14 matches. In Qualifier 1, they delivered a commanding performance, crushing Gujarat Titans by 92 runs.
The two sides met again in the final in Ahmedabad, where RCB once again proved superior, securing a comfortable five-wicket win to lift the trophy.
RCB Etch Their Name In History Books With Consecutive IPL Titles
After waiting 17 years for their maiden title, Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally broke their trophy drought in 2025 by defeating Punjab Kings in the final. After experiencing championship success for the first time, RCB wasted little time in repeating the feat, securing another IPL crown in the 2026 season.
With this triumph, RCB became only the third franchise in Indian Premier League history to win consecutive titles, joining Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians in the elite club. CSK achieved back-to-back championships in 2010 and 2011, while MI accomplished the same in 2019 and 2020.
As a result, captain Rajat Patidar joined MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma on the exclusive list of captains to lead their teams to successive IPL titles. RCB also became only the fourth franchise to win multiple IPL trophies, joining CSK, MI, and Kolkata Knight Riders.
CSK and MI remain the most successful teams in the tournament with five titles each, while KKR have lifted the trophy three times.
