[WATCH]- Renuka Singh Thakur Takes Gull Feroza’s Wicket With An Inswinger In The 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup

Team India pacer Renuka Singh Thakur provided an early breakthrough in the important 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup Group A match against Pakistan at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, October 6. The right-arm bowler dismissed Gull Feroza for a duck on just her fourth ball with a signature inswinger in the first over.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana chose to bat first, aiming to apply pressure on India, who had just suffered a heavy loss to New Zealand. After not bowling the first over in the last match, Renuka opened the bowling for India this time. With Pooja Vastrakar absent from the lineup, she needed to perform well with the new ball.

She started with a series of inswingers, leaving the Pakistan openers with no scoring opportunities. Gull Feroza felt the pressure after facing three consecutive dot balls early in the over. To finish it off, another inswinger sliced through her defences, crashing into the stumps after finding the gap between her bat and pad.

Renuka Singh ended the first over on a high note, taking a wicket while allowing just one run. Gull Feroza was dismissed early in her previous match against India during the 2024 Women’s Asia Cup, also by Pooja Vastrakar.

India aimed to capitalize on Renuka’s early breakthrough

In this must-win match at the start of their campaign, India received an excellent start. After taking a wicket in her first over, Renuka allowed three boundaries in her next over as Muneeba Ali tried to break free. She finished with figures of 2/27 in the match against New Zealand.

As it stands, Pakistan is at 18/1 after four overs, with second pacer Arundhati Reddy now entering the attack.
