Richa Ghosh delivered a stellar batting performance as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a six-wicket victory over Gujarat Giants (GG) in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 season opener. The match took place at Vadodara International Cricket Stadium on Friday, February 14.

The wicketkeeper-batter played a blistering knock, remaining unbeaten on 64 off just 27 balls at an impressive strike rate of 237.03. Her innings featured four sixes and seven fours. Ghosh sealed the win in style by smashing a six off Deandra Dottin in the penultimate over, guiding the defending champions to a record chase.

Facing a delivery outside off from Dottin, Ghosh unleashed a powerful shot over deep mid-wicket, delivering a dramatic finish to a thrilling, high-scoring contest. You can watch the video here:

Richa Ghosh forged an unbeaten 92-run stand with Kanika Ahuja (30 off 13), crucial to RCB’s successful chase. The Siliguri-born batter has been a key player for Bengaluru, scoring 257 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 141.98, including two fifties. Her contributions were instrumental in RCB’s maiden WPL title win last season, leading to her retention for ₹1.9 crore ahead of 2025.

Richa Ghosh’s explosive batting display powered RCB to the highest successful chase in WPL history, surpassing Mumbai Indians’ 191-run chase against Gujarat last season.  Alongside Ghosh and Kanika Ahuja, Ellyse Perry played a key role, scoring 57 off 34 balls with two sixes and six fours. She built an 86-run stand with Raghvi Bist for the third wicket.

Gujarat Giants set a formidable target of 201/5 in 20 overs, led by skipper Ashleigh Gardner’s blistering 79 off 37 balls, featuring eight sixes and three fours. Beth Mooney contributed 56 off 42, while Deandra Dottin added a quick 25 off 13. Renuka Singh was RCB’s standout bowler, taking two wickets.

Mumbai Indians will face Delhi Capitals in the second WPL 2025 match on Saturday, February 15.
