[WATCH]- Rishabh Pant Falls For 99, Misses 7th Century In IND vs NZ 2024 1st Test

Rishabh Pant narrowly missed a well-earned century in the first Test between India and New Zealand at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Day 4 (October 19). The left-handed batter was on track for his seventh Test ton but was bowled for 99 off 105 balls, finishing with five sixes and nine boundaries.

The disappointing dismissal for fans occurred in the 89th over of India’s second innings. William O’Rourke bowled a back-of-a-length delivery, and Pant attempted a cut shot but was deceived by the extra bounce. The ball struck the splice of his bat and shattered the stumps.

As a result of this dismissal, Pant lost the chance to surpass former India captain MS Dhoni’s record of six centuries, the most by an Indian wicketkeeper in Tests. You can watch the video here:

Rishabh Pant became the fourth wicketkeeper in Test history to be dismissed for 99, following Brendon McCullum (2005 vs SL), MS Dhoni (2012 vs ENG), and Jonny Bairstow (2017 vs SA). At 26, he now has seven dismissals in the 90s, the third highest for India, behind Sachin Tendulkar (10) and Rahul Dravid (nine).

The Uttarakhand-born player has been in outstanding form since returning to Tests, recently scoring his sixth century against Bangladesh after an absence of over 18 months.
