Pant displayed strong form in India’s recent three-match home Test series against New Zealand, finishing as the top run-scorer with 261 runs from six innings at an average of 43.50.
Despite his individual performance, the Rohit Sharma-led team suffered a historic 3-0 defeat to New Zealand, marking the first-ever whitewash for India in a three-match Test series at home.
Pant is expected to play a key role for India in the upcoming BGT 2024-25. During India’s last tour of Australia in 2020-21, he was the team’s highest run-scorer, amassing 274 runs in five innings at an average of 68.50.
“When Rishabh Pant is at the crease, everyone feels the pressure”- Ajaz Patel following the IND vs NZ 2024 Test series
New Zealand’s left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel revealed that the visitors focused on Rishabh Pant as their primary target during the three-match Test series against India. He noted that there was a palpable sense of fear within the team whenever the aggressive batter was at the crease.
In an interview with NDTV after the series, Patel stated:
“When Rishabh Pant is in the crease, everyone is scared. We targeted Rishabh Pant the most in this series. He doesn’t fear when in the middle. He plays his game, no matter what. His philosophy is till the time you are on the crease, you do what you want to, if you get out, no problem.”
Ajaz Patel took 15 wickets in five innings during the Test series against India. He was named Player of the Match in the final Test in Mumbai, where he claimed 11 wickets across both innings.
