Team India wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant will be disappointed with himself after throwing away his wicket on day 3 of the 2nd Test against South Africa at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. The youngster got out on a duck facing only three deliveries.

Meanwhile, the visiting side got off to a flying start on day 3 after Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane launched a counterattack. Both of them reached their individual half-centuries before Kagiso Rabada got the better of Rahane (58).

In walked Rishabh Pant in a tricky situation alongside well-set Cheteshwar Pujara. However, the dismissal of Rahane ignited the Proteas bowlers, who chipped in with another wicket, this time of Pujara (53). With India in trouble, the expectations were on Rishabh Pant to play sensibly and carry the innings on his shoulders along with Hanuma Vihari.

However, the 24-year-old played a shot from nowhere to throw away his wicket. Facing his second ball, Pant received a snorter which brushed his collarbone. Rassie van der Dussen, standing at short leg, also had a few words to say to the youngster, trying to get him to go big. And Rishabh Pant did go bid, albeit in poor fashion.

Pant came down the wicket to whack one out of the ground but only found an edge that safely landed in the hands of the Proteas wicket-keeper. Rishabh Pant was extremely disappointed with his dismissal and smashed his bat on the wall on the way back to the pavilion.

India inch closer to the 200-run lead

Despite losing a couple of wickets in a cluster, Hanuma Vihari and Shardul Thakur showed application to bail India out of danger. They kept the scoreboard ticking with one’s and two’s while the odd boundaries came from here and there.

Both of them will look to build a big partnership and help their side post a challenging total on the scoreboard with a series win on the line.
