[WATCH]- Rohit Sharma Cautions Marnus Labuschagne For Pitch Running In BGT 2024-25 4th Test

India captain Rohit Sharma warned Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne on the opening day (Thursday, December 26) of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test in Melbourne.

Rohit expressed his disappointment as Labuschagne was running on the pitch during play. A video shared by the Star Sports on X (formerly Twitter) showed the Indian skipper discussing the issue with Labuschagne, cautioning him against running on the pitch.

Former India cricketers Sunil Gavaskar and Irfan Pathan, commenting on the match, also highlighted the incident. Sunil Gavaskar pointed out that debutant Sam Konstas was also seen running on the pitch during the ongoing Test.

Both former cricketers noted that it was the umpires’ responsibility to warn the batters, but they remained passive, merely observing as Rohit Sharma and Marnus Labuschagne discussed the issue.

Rohit Sharma’s Indian team battles hard on Day 1 of the 4th BGT 2024-25 Test

Australia chose to bat first on the opening day of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test in Melbourne. The hosts put up a strong batting performance, challenging the Indian bowlers and making them toil hard throughout the day. By stumps, Australia had reached a solid total of 311/6, maintaining control despite India’s late breakthroughs.

Openers Sam Konstas and Usman Khawaja provided a strong start with an 89-run stand. Konstas impressed on debut with a 65-ball 60, while Khawaja played a steady knock, scoring 57 off 121 deliveries. Labuschagne (72) and Steve Smith (68*) further strengthened Australia’s innings.

India managed to pick up some quick wickets late in the day but were made to work hard throughout. Jasprit Bumrah led the attack with three wickets, including dismissing Travis Head for a seven-ball duck. Akash Deep, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar took a wicket each.
