India’s opener Rohit Sharma fell cheaply in the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. The right-handed batter was caught behind by Quinton de Kock, scoring just 14 runs off eight balls, as India lost their first wicket at 40. The dismissal came in the fifth over, with Nandre Burger delivering a length ball angling away from Rohit.
Attempting a defensive shot, the ball took a faint outside edge. The on-field umpire turned down the appeal, but de Kock persuaded bowler and captain Temba Bavuma to go for a DRS review. Replays confirmed the slight edge, ending the innings for the senior batter. Rohit, unconvinced by his own dismissal, gave a disappointed glance before leaving the crease.

With this key breakthrough, South Africa began their innings on a strong note. Rohit Sharma, who had been in excellent form with three successive half-centuries, including 57 off 51 balls in the first ODI against the Proteas, was once again dismissed by a left-arm pacer, having fallen to Marco Jansen in the previous match.
India Retain Same Playing XI After 17-Run Win vs South Africa, Lose 20th Consecutive Toss
The KL Rahul-led Indian team fielded an unchanged lineup after their 17-run victory over South Africa in the first ODI at Ranchi on Sunday, November 30. Virat Kohli was the standout with the bat, scoring his 52nd ODI century. India will aim to win the second match to secure an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
South Africa, meanwhile, made changes to their playing XI as they look to bounce back. The Proteas have not won an ODI series in India since their 3-2 triumph in 2015-16. Earlier, India lost their 20th consecutive toss but still hold a 63% win rate in their last 19 matches.
After being sent in to bat by Temba Bavuma’s side, India were 47/1 after six overs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli at the crease.
