Rohit Sharma’s energetic presence during his fitness drills at Wankhede Stadium yesterday has provided a much-needed boost for fans. After sustaining a right hamstring injury during the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 12, there was significant concern regarding his availability.
However, during Wednesday’s session, he was seen engaging in light jogging and diagonal running to test his recovery. He even spent 20 minutes in the nets, successfully playing several shots, including a confident lofted drive over cover.
While his hamstring remained heavily strapped, medical evaluations and scans have reportedly shown no signs of a tear, which is a positive sign for Mumbai Indians [4, 5]. The team management is closely monitoring his progress to determine if he can feature in today’s clash against the Punjab Kings.
Given the progress shown in his drills, there is growing speculation that he might at least be utilized as an Impact Player if he is not cleared for a full return to the starting XI. You can watch the video here:

Will Punjab Kings Extend Their Unbeaten Streak?
Punjab Kings have remained unbeaten in the tournament so far and are yet to face a serious challenge. One area of concern, however, is their tendency to concede totals in excess of 200, which has occurred twice. Despite this, they successfully chased both targets in the penultimate over, avoiding the pressure of last-over finishes.
Punjab’s performances have been driven more by teamwork than standout individual displays. Shreyas Iyer has been impressive as captain, leading from the front with the bat and accumulating 137 runs, including two half-centuries.
However, PBKS will need to strengthen their bowling unit as the tournament progresses, ensuring better support for their batting lineup in the crucial later stages.
