The much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan got underway in the 2022 T20 World Cup Super 12 stage on Sunday, October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Emotions took over for Team India skipper Rohit Sharma during the national anthem, ahead of the arch-rivals clash.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground was jam-packed with thousands of fans cheering for Team India. As the national anthem began, the Indian skipper, who is playing his seventh T20 World Cup for the country, appeared emotional. This is Rohit Sharma’s first World Cup tournament as India’s captain.

The video of the Indian captain filled with patriotic emotions was shared widely on social media, by the fans. The Mumbai Indians, the Indian Premier League franchise led by Rohit Sharma, wrote, “We all know that feeling!” while sharing the video.

Meanwhile, Team India restricted Pakistan to 159 runs in the first innings at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya shined with the ball, picking three wickets each for the team. Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed’s fifties got Pakistan to a good total. Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf also contributed handy runs in the lower order.

 

It’s a great honor to captain India: Rohit Sharma

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma spoke to BCCI TV before the start of the 2022 T20 World Cup. He expressed that it is an honor to lead the country at the mega-event. Rohit also added that it is an opportunity for the players to do something special on the global platform.

“Firstly, it’s a great honor to captain. This will be my first World Cup as a captain so I am pretty excited about that. It also gives us a great opportunity to come here and do something special. Every time you come for the World Cup, it’s a great feeling. The boys are quite pumped up. We had a great prep in Perth,” said Rohit in an interview on bcci.tv.
