Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma‘s lean run with the bat dominated headlines ahead of the ODI series decider against England at Lord’s. The veteran opener came under scrutiny after managing scores of just 11 and 26 in the opening two matches.
Amid the criticism, reports surfaced claiming that the Lord’s ODI could be Sharma’s final international appearance. However, the Indian captain silenced the speculation in emphatic fashion, smashing his 34th ODI century. Rohit produced a brilliant 138 off 110 balls in the series decider, although his valiant knock came in a losing cause.

Former India wicketkeeper-batter Deep Dasgupta admitted that he was upset by the speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s ODI retirement. Ahead of the series decider at Lord’s, reports, including one by The Indian Express, claimed that the veteran opener could be playing his final match for India.
Reacting to the rumours, Dasgupta expressed his disappointment while speaking on his YouTube channel, saying:
“I want to vent my anger a bit here because I was really angry when I was reading and listening to all of this. It is simple that as long as you keep scoring runs, you will keep playing. The only question comes in when that environment is created. Honestly, I have not heard it from any selector, captain, or the coach. It is a different matter if it was said off the field, which I am not privy to.”
