“While fans know him as the ‘Hitman’ of cricket, today marks a different kind of milestone for Rohit Sharma,” the university said in a statement.
The ceremony, led by the University’s President and Chancellor Dr. Ajeenkya D Y Patil, recognized Rohit for his remarkable contributions to cricket and his exemplary leadership on the global stage.

Rohit Sharma’s Outstanding Leadership
Before becoming India’s captain and winning the T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2025, Rohit Sharma had already built a strong legacy in the IPL. Known for his calm and strategic leadership, he led Mumbai Indians to five titles, becoming the league’s most successful captain.
His success with MI paved the way for his elevation after Virat Kohli stepped down. As national captain, Rohit transformed India’s white-ball cricket with an aggressive style, earning praise from young cricketers for his ability to inspire trust, ease, and peak performance in his team.
