Rwanda created history as they stunned full member nation Zimbabwe in a Group B match played at Absa Puk Oval, Potchefstroom on 17 January 2023. Zimbabwe captain Kelis Ndhlovu won the toss and decided to field first. Mervellie Uwase and Cynthia Tuyizere provided a decent start putting on 49 runs for.
The captain Gisele Ishimwe showed some attacking display with lovely shots. Tuyizere and Ishimwe scored important runs. After a decent start by Rwanda batters, Zimbabwe bowlers made a strong comeback picking up wickets at regular intervals. It captain Ishimwe was the top scorer with 34 off 23 balls while Cynthia made 30 runs. At the end of 20 overs, Rwanda posted 119 for 8.
Zimbabwe began cautiously in the chase before Rwanda bowlers kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Henriette Ishimwe showed her class by picking up 4 wickets in an over including a hat trick. She grabbed the wicket of Kudzai Chigora, Olinder Chare, Chipo Moyo, and Faith Ndlamabi to bowl out Zimbabwe for 80 runs. Chigora, Moyo, and Faith were bowled while Chare was given LBW. It was a superb bowling effort by Rwanda to bowl out Zimbabwe for 80 registering a historic win over the full-member nation.

It was a marvellous win for Rwanda to stun Zimbabwe in a low-scoring match. With this win, Rwanda moved to the 2nd spot while England register a comprehensive win over Pakistan to register their 2nd successive win.
It showed its fighting spirit making its debut at the international level. They provided fighting spirit in the first match against Pakistan but lost the match by 8 wickets.
