[WATCH]- Sam Konstas Mimics Virat Kohli’s Shoulder Barge On Day 2 Of BGT 2024-25 4th Test

Australian debutant Sam Konstas humorously mimicked Virat Kohli‘s shoulder barge on Day 2 of the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Incidentally, Kohli shoulder-barged the 19-year-old between overs during the morning session of Day 1 as Konstas dominated the Indian bowlers.

The two exchanged heated words before the umpires stepped in to diffuse the tension. While Konstas remained unbothered, Kohli’s actions drew heavy criticism from former cricketers. The Australian media also slammed the former Indian captain, calling him a “bully” and a “clown.”

Sam Konstas, a fan favourite rite at the MCG, amused the crowd by imitating Virat Kohli’s shoulder barge. You can watch the video here:

Sam Konstas enjoyed a stellar Test debut, smashing 60 off 65 balls with six boundaries and two sixes, laying the foundation for Australia’s first-innings total of 474, bolstered by Steve Smith’s century.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli fell for 36, edging to Alex Carey once again. At Tea on Day 3, India are struggling at 326/7, with Nitish Reddy (85*) and Washington Sundar (40*) narrowing the deficit.

“I didn’t quite realize it” – Sam Konstas on Virat Kohli’s shoulder barge

Speaking to 7Cricket after Day 1’s play, Konstas addressed the controversial incident, downplaying it as a moment where emotions ran high for both players. He remarked:

“I think emotions got over both of us. I didn’t quite realize, I was doing my gloves and then there was a little shoulder charge. But it happens, it’s cricket.”

Meanwhile, the ICC penalized Virat Kohli with a fine of 20% of his match fees and given one demerit point after admitting his offense to match referee Andy Pycroft. In a similar incident in 2019, Kohli received a demerit point and was fined 25% of his match fees after a collision with South Africa’s Beuran Hendricks during a T20I match.
