On the professional front, Sanju Samson is making headlines for all the right reasons. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 107 runs off 50 balls in the first T20I, helping India secure a 61-run victory. This marked his second consecutive T20I century, following his 111 off 46 balls in the third T20I against Bangladesh.

Samson became the first Indian batter to achieve this feat and joined South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw and England’s Phil Salt as the only players from Test-playing nations to do so in T20Is. However, he was dismissed for a duck off three balls in the second game against South Africa.

“All you need is one big century”- Sanju Samson shares Ravi Shastri’s message before his two consecutive centuries

Sanju Samson revealed that former India head coach Ravi Shastri expressed confidence in him before the Bangladesh T20I, saying that a century was all Samson need to regain his form and secure his spot in the team for upcoming matches.

Samson stated (via India Today):

“I remember him talking to me before the Bangladesh game in Hyderabad. He was like, ‘Sanju! You just need that one big hundred. I am telling you. And you will be fine.’ I think we are happy it happened and I am happy for everyone.”

Samson mentioned that his aggressive intent to hit boundaries played a key role in his dominance over the Proteas in the series opener. He further stated:

“There is not enough time in T20s to have a look and go at it. So atleast, the intent really helped. We definitely are the world champions.”

Sanju Samson will next be in action in the third T20I in Centurion on Wednesday, November 13, as India looks to recover from their three-wicket loss in the second match.
