[WATCH]- Saqib Mahmood’s Claims Three Quick Wickets In The Hundred Men’s Final

With his three wickets, Saqib Mahmood turned the match in favour of Oval Invincibles as they defeated Southern Brave by 17 runs in The Hundred Men’s final at Lord’s in London on Sunday, August 18. Mahmood’s impressive performance includes his season-best figures of 3/17. He also claimed Kieron Pollard as a prized wicket for a four-ball duck. The other two batsmen were well set Leus de Plooy and Laurie Evans.

Mahmood cleaned up Du Plooy off the 72nd delivery before removing the danger man Pollard via LBW. The pacer dealt another blow to the Brave by dismissing Evans who played the ball straight to Dawid Malan at cover. These three timely wickets left Brave in a spot of bother at 100/6 after 78 deliveries while chasing 148.

Oval Invincibles defeated Southern Brave to secure consecutive The Hundred men’s titles

At the men’s competition on Sunday, a comprehensive performance saw the Oval Invincibles beat Southern Brave to win their second consecutive title in The Hundred. The team led by Sam Billings scored 147 runs for 9 wickets batting first in a span of 100 balls.

Will Jacks was the top scorer, making 37 runs from 22 balls thanks to three sixes and two boundaries. A significant contribution was noted from Sam Curran (25 runs off 20 balls) and Jordan Cox who made 25 runs off 17 deliveries as well. Late assault came from Tom Curran and Tom Lammonby whose innings were worth 24 (11) and 16 respectively (9).

The Southern Brave chased a total of 130 for 7 runs in their innings. Tymal Mills and Akeal Hosein were the bowlers who did well for the Brave with three wickets apiece whereas Jofra Archer had two wickets.

However, the highest run scorer for Brave women was Alex Davies (35 off 24), captain James Vince (24 off 22) and Leus du Plooy (20 off 14) did get some runs but this was insufficient to make them cross over this hurdle. Saqib Mahmood topped the charts with his three figures; whereas Adam Zampa grabbed two wickets as well including the important one of captain Hoff.

Together they formed an all-wicket pairing with Nathan Sowter and Will Jacks each contributing another scalp. The Oval Invincibles have also been lucky enough to clinch consecutive trophies from 2021 through 2022 while participating in both competitions – men’s and women’s editions of The Hundred Cricket.
