The Eden Gardens in Kolkata, one of India’s oldest and most respected cricket venues, is famous for its knowledgeable crowd. Yet during the opening Test between India and South Africa, a fan directed an unusual question at Shubman Gill’s father, Lakhwinder Singh, who was seated nearby. The fan asked him when he planned to get his son married.
After greeting Lakhwinder, the fan casually posed the marriage question while Lakhwinder sat with a young child. Lakhwinder responded that the choice entirely depends on Shubman and that there is no pressure from the family. The fan then went a step further and asked whether Shubman would marry Sara Tendulkar, who is often rumoured to be linked with the India Test captain.
The fan asked, “Uncle ji, when are you getting Gill married? Are you planning to get him married to Sara or not?” He shared a video of the exchange online, and the clip has since gone viral. You can watch the video here:

Gill Jokes After 8th Toss Loss, Says First Win May Come In 2027 WTC Final
Earlier on Day 1 of the match, Shubman Gill, captaining India for the eighth time in Tests, once again lost the toss. This marked his eighth consecutive toss loss, setting an unwanted record for a new captain. Gill, however, reacted with good humour, joking that his first toss win as India’s skipper might only come in the 2027 World Test Championship final.
“I think the only toss that I’m going to win is hopefully in the WTC finals. Yeah. Looks like a good surface. Hopefully, we’ll get some movement early, hopefully we’re able to extract that. Dressing room is pretty amazing. This Test bunch is very hungry and is always determined to perform every time we come out,” Gill said at the toss.
