[Watch] South Africa Commits Comedy Of Errors As They Miss Out On An Opportunity To Run-Out Rishabh Pant

The first T20I between India and South Africa is underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Indian team set a target of 212 runs batting first, on the back of Ishan Kishan’s brilliant innings in the match.

During the course of the first innings, a funny incident took place on the field as the South African fielders missed a run-out opportunity. Indian skipper Rishabh Pant walked out to bat at the end of the thirteenth over, as Ishan Kishan was sent back to the hut. In the next over, Kagiso Rabada came on to bowl in search of another wicket.

Shreyas Iyer hit the first delivery towards the short mid-wicket area. As Shreyas hit the ball, the non-striker, Rishabh Pant took off for a run. However, Shreyas denied it and sent him back. Meanwhile, the South African debutant, Tristan Stubbs collected the ball but threw it over the fielder who was coming at the danger end to run-out Pant. The Indian skipper lost his balance mid-way but managed to get back in the crease.

Rishabh Pant survived a run-out chance in the over. He then took on the South African bowlers and slammed 29 runs off 16 balls, including two boundaries, and as many sixes. Earlier in the match, Ishan Kishan smashed 76 runs off 48 balls, including eleven boundaries and three sixes to get India off to a good start.

The South African team needs to chase down 212 in their 20 overs to go one up in the three-match T20I series.

Proudest moment in my cricketing career so far: Rishabh Pant on captaincy debut for India

The first T20I against South Africa marks Rishabh Pant’s debut in the captaincy role at the International level. He has the experience of leading the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. Speaking about his India captaincy debut, Pant said at the toss,

“It is one of the proudest moment in my cricketing career so far. Because a Delhi boy getting that (captaincy) honor at Delhi is a huge thing for me. Thanks to everyone for giving me this opportunity.”
