The Indian speed sensation Mohammed Shami, who has failed to feature in competitive cricket since the last 2023 ODI World Cup due to injury, is gradually preparing for his comeback by bowling in the nets. Shami was given the green light to return to play but BCCI was watching over him when he was out of action after a right heel surgery.
This particular WC turned out to be Shami’s final international cricket match in the year, 2023, for the Indian cricket team. Therefore, it can be explained that the one-day international (ODI) World Cup in the previous year would not have been wealthy without having this star bowler.
In seven games, the senior bowler took 24 wickets at an average of 10.70. Despite receiving injections to address his ankle issue, Shami played through the injury at the India-hosted ICC tournament. Before the pacer’s inability to recover for the England series in January, Shami complained of “some stiffness” in his ankle.
Watch: Mohammed Shami starts bowling in the nets:
On Tuesday, veteran pacer Mohammed Shami hinted at his comeback on a lengthy path to recovery. A procedure was performed on the great pacer’s Achilles tendon earlier this year.
Having been excluded from IPL 2024 and the ICC T20 World Cup, the 33-year-old did not play in the home series against Australia. As per the most recent update, Shami is getting ready to come back to professional cricket.
The pace ace Shami posted a video of himself slamming the nets on Instagram on Tuesday. A couple of deliveries were bowled by the fast bowler in the training nets with caution. Shami, the top fast bowler, has not yet returned to bowling at his peak level despite his ankle ailment has healed.
“Vibing with the latest, grinding for the greatest. #shami #mdshami #mdshami11 #hardwork #practice,” Shami captioned his post on the Facebook-owned platform.
Ankle problems also forced the speedster to withdraw from the Indian team for the South African series. Pacers Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar will be Team India’s representatives in the 2024 season since Shami will miss numerous series and important competitions. Shami, the speed merchant, will also be out of India’s white-ball series with Sri Lanka.
