“Victory dance assured”: Gavaskar to Suryakumar if India defend T20 title
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has once again won the hearts of cricket fans with a charming and playful promise. Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, he revealed that he would dance with joy if India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, successfully defended their T20 World Cup title.
Gavaskar shared this during a conversation on India Today’s Salaam Cricket, speaking openly about the enduring significance of India winning major tournaments for him. Even at 75, the cricket legend confessed that seeing the Indian flag raised after a championship victory still touches him deeply.
“When you lift the trophy and receive it, I will start dancing,” Gavaskar said. “Dancing is my cardio. Everyone else does intense cardio, but I can’t do that at my age. So I do a little bit of cardio, and that’s dancing. There’s so much joy in seeing your captain and your country’s flag going up. Sometimes emotions just come out.”
Speaking to the Indian captain, Gavaskar kept it simple: “Focus on winning the trophy, and I’ll handle everything else.”
