The Hong Kong Cricket Team emerged as winners in the 2022 Asia Cup Qualifiers in Al Amerat. They were termed the dark horse in the competition, which included the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Singapore. Hong Kong topped the Points table with six points remaining unbeaten in the tournament to qualify for the Asia Cup 2022 tournament. They celebrated their victory by dancing to ‘Kala Chashma’ in the dressing room.
The Hong Kong team started off the qualification round with an eight runs win over Singapore. They followed it up with a comfortable win against Kuwait by eight wickets chasing 152 runs. In their final match of the tournament, the Nizakat Khan-led team beat the favorites the United Arab Emirates by eight wickets to storm into the Asia Cup group stages.
Soon after their comprehensive victory, the Hong Kong team celebrated the occasion by dancing to the hit Bollywood song, ‘Kala Chashma’. Sharing the video of the celebration, cricketer Zeeshan Ali wrote, “Asia cup get ready for @hkcricket“
Hong Kong placed in Group A with India, and Pakistan for Asia Cup 2022 group stages
After their brilliant performance in the qualifiers, Team Hong Kong secured a place in Group A for the group stages of the Asia Cup 2022 tournament. India and Pakistan are also placed in the same group along with Hong Kong. This will be Hong Kong’s fourth overall appearance at the Asia Cup tournament in two decades.
The Nizakat Khan-led team will kick off its campaign on Wednesday, August 31. They will take on the defending champions, India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Hong Kong will then play its second and final match of the Group stages against Pakistan. The Sharjah Cricket Stadium will host the clash on Friday, September 2.
