Tilak Varma pulled off a superb catch near the boundary to dismiss Ryan Burl off Ravi Bishnoi’s bowling during the opening T20I between India and Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Wednesday, July 23. After disappointing outings against Ireland and England, India bounced back strongly with an impressive display.
Having won the toss, captain Shreyas Iyer opted to field first, and India’s young bowling attack made an immediate impact. Pace duo Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav struck early to reduce Zimbabwe to a precarious position inside the powerplay.
The spinners then tightened their grip on the contest, with Bishnoi providing a crucial breakthrough by removing the dangerous Ryan Burl, thanks to Tilak Varma’s excellent catch near the ropes. Bishnoi bowled a wide delivery, and with the scoring rate hovering just over five an over, Burl looked to take him on by going for a big hit.
Although the left-hander made good contact, he failed to generate enough power to clear the boundary. Positioned at long-on, Tilak Varma judged the ball perfectly and completed a safe catch just inside the ropes. It proved to be a crucial breakthrough for India, as Burl had scored 26 runs and was beginning to accelerate the innings after settling at the crease. Watch the video here:

Madhevere and Marumani Rescue Zimbabwe with Crucial Partnership
Zimbabwe endured a difficult start after being put in to bat by India captain Shreyas Iyer in the opening T20I of the three-match series. India’s young pace attack troubled the hosts with raw pace and disciplined hard lengths, making scoring difficult.
The Zimbabwe batters found it hard to build momentum and lost wickets at regular intervals while trying to increase the scoring rate. Mayank Yadav claimed two wickets, while Prince Yadav and Shivam Dube picked up one apiece as the hosts crawled to 46/4 at the halfway stage.
However, Zimbabwe recovered well in the latter half of the innings through a crucial 50-plus partnership between Wessly Madhevere and Tadiwanashe Marumani. Madhevere scored a valuable 39, while Marumani remained unbeaten on 27, helping the hosts post 125 and set India a target of 126.
