The optimism of the hosts at the start of the day was soon strained as Tim Southee of New Zealand bowled well in the initial part of the innings. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma advanced out of the crease in an effort to disrupt the bowlers’ rhythm.

However, the trickster bowler Shane went one better and bowled a brilliant slider, which was risked by Rohit Sharma, scoring the ball off the upper leg stump with the ball cleanly located between his bat and pads stumps. The experienced first player had to walk back to the dressing room with just two runs added on the board.

Virat Kohli’s promotion to the third rank delighted the Chinnaswamy crowd, but soon after, India lost two more quick wickets in a row, silencing the fans. After only eight deliveries, Kohli was overcome by the Will O’Rourke. Glenn Phillips made a breathtaking diving grab at leg gully after Kohli’s glove was clipped by the short delivery.

When Sarfaraz Khan tried to launch a counterattack, things got worse. Devon Conway produced an incredible one-hander at mid-off after he misplayed a drive off Matt Henry. India was struggling at 10/3 after losing three wickets in rapid succession. As the rain started to fall, the covers were once again pulled over India at 13/3.
