The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) mentor Gautam Gambhir came down hard on the players after their disappointing loss against the Gujarat Titans. The KL Rahul-led team lost the game by 62 runs on Tuesday at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
Chasing 144 runs on a tricky surface, Lucknow was bowed out for a paltry 82. They lost opener Quinton De Kock in the fourth over with 19 runs on the board. After his wicket, the batting order collapsed like a house of cards. None of the Lucknow Super Giants batters could manage to pull them out of trouble.
Following their dismal batting performance, mentor Gautam Gambhir expressed that the team lacked game sense in the match. In a video uploaded by the Lucknow franchise, Gambhir can be seen giving the post-match dressing room speech. He criticized the team’s approach in the match. Gambhir said:
“See there is nothing wrong in losing, it’s absolutely fine. One team has to win, one team has to lose, but there is a lot wrong in giving up. Today I thought that we gave up, we were weak. Honestly, there is no place for being weak in a tournament like IPL or in sport. That is where the problem is.
“We have beaten teams in this competition, we have played really good cricket in this competition. But today I thought that probably we lacked that game sense, which was more important,” added Gautam Gambhir.
We want to be challenged – Gautam Gambhir
The Lucknow Super Giants mentor further expressed that in a competition like the Indian Premier League (IPL) where you’re playing against International bowlers, you’re likely to be challenged. He added that they want to get challenged to improve their performance.
“We know that they bowled well, and we expect them to bowl well. It’s a world-class competition, you’re playing against International bowlers, and we want people to challenge us, no doubt about it. That is what we play the sport for, we practice day in and day out because we want to be challenged,” Gambhir expressed.
This was Lucknow Super Giants’ fourth loss of the Indian Premier League 2022 season. They have sixteen points from twelve matches and are sitting at the second spot in the points table. The KL Rahul-led team is one win away from securing a playoff spot.
