The New Zealand cricket team whitewashed Ireland in a three-match ODI series on Friday, July 15 at The Village in Dublin. The third ODI witnessed some scintillating batting performances from both teams. New Zealand put on a mammoth 360-run total on the board in the first innings. The hosts fell one run short of the total in the end. One of the highlights of the match was Tom Latham’s six which broke the glass on the ground.

New Zealand opted to bat first after winning the toss. They got off to a brilliant start, on the back of Martin Guptill and Finn Allen’s opening stand. However, a couple of quick wickets set them back. Skipper Tom Latham walked out to bat at number four for his team.

The wicket-keeper batter broke the shackles by slamming Andy McBrine for a six over long-on. The incident took place in the 19th over of the innings. McBrine bowled a loopy full delivery on the stumps, Latham came down the track and dispatched it for a six. The ball bounced outside the boundary rope and then went on to crash into the glass window.

Tom Latham scored 30 runs off 26 deliveries including three boundaries and a six. However, the star of the innings was Martin Guptill, who slammed a 126-ball 115-run knock. Henry Nicholls also played a brilliant hand of 79 runs, while Glenn Philips scored quick-fire 47. New Zealand reached 360 runs for six wickets in their fifty overs.

Paul Stirling and Harry Tector almost take Ireland over the line

Paul Stirling and Harry Tector slammed centuries in the third ODI against New Zealand on Friday, July 15. Unfortunately, Ireland fell one run short of the 360-runs total, handing New Zealand a 3-0 win in the ODI series. Opener Paul Stirling scored 120 runs off 103 deliveries, while Harry Tector slammed 106-balls 108 runs.

Ireland needed 10 runs off the final over to win the third ODI, with just two wickets in hand. Craig Young and Graham Hume at the crease, while Blair Tickner was given the final over by the Kiwis. Young smashed a boundary on the third delivery to ease some pressure. But a run-out on the next delivery crushed New Zealand’s hopes. They could manage only two runs from the next two deliveries of the over losing the game by just one run.
