[WATCH]- Travis Head Scores His Sixth Century In The First ODI Between England And Australia In 2024

Australian opener Travis Head hit his sixth ODI century against England during the first match at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Thursday, September 19. The left-handed batsman scored a single off a full toss from Matthew Potts.

As Potts threw a full toss that was far beyond off stump, he reached the landmark at the 30th over of the innings and thumped it to deep point. A helmet placed on top of the bat celebrated his entry into three-figure club. The terrific promptness with which he attained this feat was equally impressive since it only took him 92 balls.

In the previous three T20I series, this South Australian had also displayed extraordinary form. In their first match against tourists, he scored 59 runs off just 23 balls for a victory by 28 runs. In the next game, however, as stand in captain, Australia lost after a short innings at his hands.

Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne’s unbeaten partnership helped Australia win easily in Nottingham

In the run chase for 316, though captain Mitchell Marsh left early, the leftie stitched together a fifty-run partnership with Steve Smith. The ex-skipper went out for 32 as Liam Livingstone scalped him in a caught and bowled chance. But Head’s combination with Cameron Green was again convincing but ended with 32 runs from just as many balls.

Marnus Labuschagne, who next was more sluggish as compared to the others, also avoided a thick lbw shout directed at him by Adil Rashid but thanks to the umpire’s call on it.

The 37th over confirmed the chase in Labuschagne’s favour as he sent down two sixes and one other strike to knock his worries off. With those boundaries, he got his fifty within 42 balls and subsequently Australia were able to run their innings easily.

The visitors completed their target in just 44 overs, with seven wickets in hand as Head (154*) and Labuschagne (77*) remained on strike. Their association was an unyielding 148. A second ODI will be played at Leeds on Saturday.
