Mumbai Indians’ opener Rohit Sharma fell to Rajasthan Royals’ pacer Trent Boult for the second time in the 2024 IPL season. He was out for just six runs off five balls in the current match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday, April 22.
Previously, Rohit was dismissed for a golden duck by Boult during the reverse fixture at the Wankhede Stadium. In this instance, however, he had a decent start, flicking the first ball for a single and hitting an edgy boundary off the second ball.
However, after facing a couple of dot balls, Rohit Sharma attempted a wild, expansive shot by stepping out and clearing his front leg. Unfortunately, the connection was not as clean as he had anticipated, sending the ball straight up into the air.
It hung in the sky for what seemed like an eternity, but by the time it descended, Sanju Samson had already positioned himself comfortably and safely took the catch to give RR their first breakthrough.

Following Rohit’s dismissal, Ishan Kishan also fell shortly after, nicking a delivery from Sandeep Sharma in the following over. Initially given not out by the umpire, RR successfully reviewed the decision, resulting in Kishan’s departure. MI further suffered a setback as Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed midway through the powerplay, leaving them at 20/3.
Trent Boult has claimed Rohit Sharma’s wicket on three occasions in the IPL
Including his recent dismissal in the ongoing match, Rohit Sharma has now been dismissed by Trent Boult a total of three times. The two players, who were once teammates for the Mumbai Indians (MI), have had memorable battles in the past across various formats.
Boult first got the better of the former Mumbai captain in the IPL during the 2018 edition. Boult has capitalized on Rohit’s well-known struggles against left-arm pacers throughout the years. However, it was Rohit who famously took on Boult during the 2023 ODI World Cup semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium, providing India with a strong start.
