The 2022/23 BBL season has been filled with exciting events, such as the Sydney Thunder being bowled out for 14, Adam Zampa’s daring ‘Mankading’ attempt, and Michael Nesser’s incredible boundary line catch.
Another incredible event occurred on Saturday (January 14) at the famous Docklands Stadium during a massive match between city rivals Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades. Wicket-keeper Joe Clark smashed a delivery from Renegades pacer Will Sutherland into the stadium’s closed roof in the third over of the Star’s innings. The ball landed inside the thirty-yard circle, but the umpires decided to call it a six.

The same thing happened in the 16th over of the innings when Beau Webster smashed Tom Rodgers onto the roof for a six despite the ball landing close to the pitch.

Many will recall that this was previously referred to as a dead-ball, and it is also the case when a ball strikes the spider-cam. This rule was changed after the second season, when Renegades captain Aaron Finch smashed the ball into the roof, and it was decided to give such incidents maximum points.
Due to the extreme heat in Melbourne, the Australian T20 league decided to close the roof for the crucial Melbourne Derby. Docklands Stadium in Melbourne is the only cricket stadium in the world to have an indoor roof.
Regarding the match, the Stars won the toss and elected to bowl first. Their bowlers did an excellent job, limiting the Rengaded to a score of 162 on the board. Sam Harper led his team in scoring with a 51-ball knock. Jonathan Wells, who scored 44 off 24 balls, provided him with valuable support.
Stars appear to be at ease in the chase and on the verge of a victory. Clark’s 37-ball 59 got them off to a great start but the Renegades pulled themselves and bagged 2 points by defeating their counterparts by 6 runs.
