Ishan Kishan is currently the unluckiest cricketer on planet right now. The Mumbai Indians (MI) wicket-keeper batter got out in manner against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium one will rarely see in the history of the game.

Chasing 169 runs, Ishan, who has had underwhelming time in the last few games, struggled to get going. While Rohit Sharma found the boundaries here and there, the youngster from Jharkhand couldn’t get his timing right.

In the eighth over the game, Ishan Kishan tried to break the shackles and went hard at the bowlers. Incidentally, it was a googly from Ravi Bishnoi and Ishan desperately wanted a release shot. The ball skewed it off the thick inside edge and looped up to the left of Jason Holder at slip straight off the keeper’s boot.

The southpaw started walking even before the bowler broke into half-an-appeal and Lucknow Super Giants camp was all smiles. After two half-centuries to start the IPL 2022 campaign, Ishan Kishan has fallen flat.

A couple of wickets tumbled as Mumbai Indians were reduced to 67/4 with Dewald Brevis, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav back in the hut. The onus now lies on young Tilak Varma and senior statesman Kieron Pollard to stitch a big partnership to give Mumbai a chance of getting closer to the target.

“I will be concerned when they are not hitting the ball well” – Mahela Jayawardene on Ishan Kishan’s dismal run

Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene was unperturbed by the lack of runs Ishan Kishan. Jayawardene, an ace batter for Sri Lanka in his playing days, insisted that the duo have been timing the ball well in practice sessions.

“I have been a batter and that’s part and parcel of the game. I will be concerned when they are not hitting the ball well or if they don’t have the confidence but both of them have been batting well out there in the middle and in the nets,” Jayawardene said.
