Vaibhav Suryavanshi had his first batting session with India senior squad ahead of the opening T20I against Ireland on June 26, 2026, at the Civil Service Cricket Club. The first two T20Is, scheduled for June 26 and 28, will both be played in Belfast, marking India’s first-ever match in Northern Ireland.
The matches will begin at 6 am IST to avoid overlapping with the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Meanwhile, attention remains firmly on the 15-year-old Suryavanshi, who became the youngest player selected in India’s squad and could surpass Sachin Tendulkar as India’s youngest debutant if picked in the playing XI.
Ahead of the clash, Suryavanshi spent over an hour batting in the nets against both pace and spin bowlers. After his session, he was seen speaking with head coach Gautam Gambhir before taking a water break, and later shared a conversation with Ishan Kishan.

Gambhir-Suryavanshi Conversation Steals Spotlight Ahead of India’s 1st T20I
India team’s final practice session on Thursday ahead of the T20I series against Ireland cricket team faced a minor disruption after concerns were raised over training facilities in Belfast. However, once the matter was sorted, attention soon turned to 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who could make his international debut on Friday and become India’s youngest-ever debutant.
According to a PTI report, the team management noticed that one of the practice pitches did not have a sightscreen behind the bowler’s arm, making it difficult for batters to track the ball clearly against the background.
“Yes, there have been some issues with practice facilities, but the Indian team’s support staff have brought this to the notice of Irish officials,” a BCCI source said.
The issue was quickly resolved after India national cricket team’s operations manager held discussions with the hosts. Cricket Ireland then made the required arrangements, ensuring the practice session continued smoothly.
With the logistical problem out of the way, focus soon shifted to the youngest member of the Indian squad, 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has emerged as one of cricket’s biggest talking points after an impressive Indian Premier League 2026 season earned him a rapid promotion to the national team.
Though Belfast is not usually known for cricket, India’s training session created a lot of excitement. From local media to the Indian community, most of the attention was on one player — Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
