India at the end of the day lead by 146 with them being 18/1 at stumps. Addressing the post-match presser, Shami said that India would ideally look for a target between 350-400. Shami was the pick of the bowlers for India, bagging 5 wickets in the first innings, while Shardul Thakur and Jasprit Bumrah claimed 2 each. One wicket went to Mohammed Siraj as the Proteas were bowled out for 197.
“Two days are left in the Test match, I feel we should be batting the maximum amount of time tomorrow. If we score around 250 runs and set a target of about 400 runs for South Africa we can then allow South Africa to bat for four sessions. But for that we need atleast 350 or 400 odd runs,” said Shami while replying to a query from ANI in the press conference.
Brief Scores: India 327 (KL Rahul 123, Mayank Agarwal 60; Lungisani Ngidi 6-71, Kagiso Rabada 3-72) & 18/1 lead South Africa 197 (Temba Bavuma 52; Mohammed Shami 5-44) by 146 runs
