Team India’s star batter Virat Kohli couldn’t leave his mark in the second innings of the second Border-Gavaskar Test at the Adelaide Oval. He was dismissed for 11 off 21 balls by Scott Boland during the third session on Day 2 (Saturday, December 7).
Walking in at 42-2 in the ninth over, Kohli endured a nervy stay at the crease. He was beaten by a superb delivery from Boland on his very first ball and managed a streaky boundary soon after. His short innings continued in a similar vein.
Boland, in tandem with Pat Cummins, kept Kohli under pressure with tight, disciplined bowling. The pressure eventually paid off as Kohli nicked the third ball of Boland’s 15th over, with the delivery holding its line just enough to induce the outside edge.

India’s struggles deepen as Kohli falls for 11 in the second innings at the Adelaide Oval
The ace batter’s dismissal left India reeling at 42-3, with a significant deficit still to erase after Australia posted 337 in their first innings against India’s 190-run total on Day 1. Kohli’s rare failure at Adelaide dims his otherwise stellar record at the venue
The former captain’s exploits at the Adelaide Oval are legendary, highlighted by his maiden Test century in 2012 and twin hundreds during his captaincy debut. However, this marked only the second time in his Test career he failed to register a fifty at this ground.
Even during the infamous day-night Test of the 2020-21 tour, Kohli managed a classy half-century before being run out due to a mix-up. However, the ongoing Test at the iconic Adelaide Oval, potentially his last appearance at the venue, yielded just 18 runs.
This marks his lowest aggregate score in a Test at the stadium. Previously, his worst performance here was in the opening Test of the 2018 Border-Gavaskar series, where he totaled 37 runs.
