England cricketer Jonny Bairstow has continued his brilliant run in Test cricket. He slammed a century in the ongoing fifth Test match against India on Sunday, July 3 at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. The right-handed batter was dismissed for 106 runs in the first innings. Indian cricketer Virat Kohli gave a ‘flying kiss’ send-off to the England batter.

Jonny Bairstow’s knock came at a crucial time for the hosts, who were reeling at 83/5 at one point in time. He put up a couple of valuable partnerships to bail the team out of trouble. Bairstow and Ben Stokes scored 66 runs together, while the wicket-keeper batter and Sam Billings put on a 92 runs stand for the seventh wicket.

In the fifty-fifth over, Jonny Bairstow was caught by Virat Kohli off Mohammed Shami’s over. The Indian pacer bowled a full delivery wide outside off stump. Bairstow went for a drive, but the ball got an outside edge and went to Virat Kohli at the first slip. The former Indian cricketer gave Bairstow a flying kiss send-off to Bairstow. He was also seen dancing after completing the catch to celebrate the dismissal.

Interestingly, earlier in the match, Virat Kohli and Jonny Bairstow were involved in a heated argument. The umpire had to step in and calm things down between the two. This year, he averages 67.69, scoring 880 runs in fifteen innings, including five centuries and a fifty.

Jasprit Bumrah leads India from the front

Indian skipper Jasprit Bumrah has led the team from the front. He took three wickets in nineteen overs. Pacer Mohammed Siraj too has been brilliant, taking four wickets in the innings. England is all out for 284 runs, handing India a first-innings lead of 132 runs.

Johnny Bairstow’s century helped the hosts to avoid the follow-on at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. Apart from him, skipper Ben Stokes and Sam Billings chipped in with crucial contributions. Stokes scored 25 runs, while Billings slammed 36 runs in the innings.
