Amid the hectic Indian Premier League schedule marked by constant matches and travel, Virat Kohli highlighted the importance of enduring personal connections. A day after playing a key role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s win over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, he chose to delay his departure from the city to attend a meaningful engagement in his hometown.
On Monday, the former India captain accompanied his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma for the inauguration of a new branch of the West Delhi Cricket Academy (WDCA) at Delhi Public School, RK Puram.
Even with a crucial upcoming IPL match against Gujarat Titans on Thursday, Kohli remained in Delhi an extra day to support the mentor who played a significant role in shaping his cricketing journey. The event was also attended by DDCA President Rohan Jaitley.
Virat Kohli took time to present awards to students of the academy, many of whom were visibly thrilled to see him. In a heartfelt moment reflecting cultural respect, a student attempted to touch his feet; however, Kohli gently stopped him and instead opted for a handshake along with words of encouragement.
Kohli’s Interaction with School Kids
While speaking to the students, Virat Kohli delivered a speech that reflected a deep sense of self-awareness and maturity.
“I chose sport very early on in my life, but that came from a very honest place,” the 37-year-old said, according to ANI.

“I was very sure that I wanted to go ahead and pursue cricket, and I had to be honest with myself, my family, and also my teachers to convey to them that this is the path I want to take.”
He encouraged young cricketers to stay completely dedicated to their goals.
“Be honest with your dreams, about what you want to do and follow that dream with absolute commitment. Only you will know whether you are being 100% honest or not.”
