The Colombo airport in Sri Lanka saw a touching moment between India‘s star batter Virat Kohli and his admirers. Kohli arrived in the island nation on July 29th, Monday for India’s impending ODI series against Sri Lanka.
He greeted Indian fans with all smiles and snapped photographs as well. He was patiently waiting for his turn at the check-in counter as the fans who were mesmerized by him attempted to take his picture. On the previous day, Indian captain Rohit Sharma laid down alongside KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Kuldeep Yadav and Harshit Rana.
The Colombo practice session will be flagged off by Kohli and Rohit before the ODI series beginning. There were discussions regarding if the talented duo would be included in this series or not. It is however important to note that Rohit was appointed as the team captain and also Kohli got himself on the 15-man list.
Both Kohli and Rohit will come back to play ODIs post-November 2023 aiming at getting used again to local conditions. In terms of past performances against Sri Lanka, both of them possess remarkable records hence intend not only to maintain but improve them further during this series just beginning.
After India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024, they will both come back to the cricket field. On that day, Rohit and Kohli expressed their intention of retiring from the shortest format of cricket for India, while stipulating that they will remain in service of the country in the other two formats.

Kohli’s supremacy over Sri Lanka
Kohli presently has the second most number of runs against Sri Lanka in ODIs after Sachin Tendulkar. In 53 ODIs he has scored a total of 2594 runs at an average of 63.26 and strike-rate of 93.91 with 10 centuries and 12 fifties to his credit.
In Colombo, the assistant coach Abhishek Nayar started training the ODI team. Other players of T20Is are ready to join them after finishing their series. In the shortest format before them, India are leading 2-0 against Sri Lanka and hope to achieve a clean-sweep as they converge for the 3rd T20I on July 30, Tuesday.
