A video has circulated widely on social media, featuring Indian captain Rohit Sharma aboard the team bus, waiting for his passport, which he had forgotten in his hotel room.

The delay in the team’s departure to the airport was caused because Rohit boarded the bus without his passport and had to wait until a support staff member retrieved it for him.

This incident took place as Team India members were preparing to return home following their decisive 10-wicket victory in the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday.

In the match, India bowled first after losing the toss, and with Mohammed Siraj taking 6/21, Sri Lanka was dismissed for just 50 runs. India’s batters then easily secured the win in 6.1 overs.

While Rohit Sharma awaited his passport on the bus, his teammates playfully teased him with loud cheers. The Indian captain’s tendency to forget items is a well-known fact among his fellow players on the team.

In fact, a couple of years ago, during his appearance on the talk show “Breakfast With Champions,” Virat Kohli humorously remarked that he had never encountered anyone as forgetful as Rohit.

Kohli had this to say about the Indian captain: “The number of things he forgets; I have never seen anyone else as forgetful as Rohit Sharma – iPad, wallet, phone, not the small things, but daily use essentials. He’s like, I don’t care, I’ll get new one. He has no idea he’s left something, the bus would’ve travelled half way to the hotel and then he remembers ‘Oh, I left my iPad on the plane.”

During the casual conversation, Kohli shared that Rohit had forgotten his passport on a couple of occasions. The former Indian captain recalled:

“He has forgotten his passport as well 2-3 times. It was retrieved with much difficulty. The logistical manager always asks, ‘Does Rohit Sharma have all his stuff?’. Once he gets a yes from Rohit, only then does the bus depart.”

Following their decisive victory over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final, Rohit, Kohli, and several other Indian team members were spotted arriving in Mumbai on Monday.

Rohit Sharma’s performance in Asia Cup 2023

The Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma, set an example with his batting in Asia Cup 2023. Over five innings, he amassed 194 runs, maintaining an average of 48.50. Rohit’s journey started with an 11 against Pakistan in the group stage, and he continued with notable scores of 74*, 56, and 53 before encountering a duck in the Super 4 game against Bangladesh.

In the upcoming fixtures, Team India is set to take on Australia in a three-match ODI series on home turf, scheduled from September 22 to September 27.
