Royal Challengers Bengaluru began their campaign with a win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, where Virat Kohli stayed unbeaten on 69 off 38 balls, smashing five sixes and five fours. The defending champions boast a strong squad this season and will aim to maintain their momentum as they take on familiar rivals Chennai Super Kings on April 5.

Meanwhile, CSK are coming off a heavy defeat against Rajasthan Royals and will be eager to bounce back. Notably, MS Dhoni is set to miss the clash.

Virat Kohli Dominates IPL Record Books with Most Runs

Virat Kohli has stepped away from two formats of international cricket—Tests and T20Is—but continues to feature in ODIs for the India national cricket team, where he has been in exceptional form. He has struck three centuries in his last six matches, along with two match-winning fifties.

Carrying this momentum into domestic cricket, Kohli also impressed on his return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the Delhi cricket team. The veteran batter had already ended IPL 2025 strongly with over 650 runs and picked up right where he left off in IPL 2026.

Virat Kohli has been a part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru since the inaugural IPL 2008 and holds the record for the most appearances for a single franchise. By the time RCB took on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2026 opener, he had featured in 268 matches for the side. He is also the tournament’s all-time leading run-scorer, with 8,661 runs to his name.

The Indian legend additionally owns the record for the most runs in a single season, having scored 973 in 2016. He also has eight IPL centuries, the highest tally by any batter in the competition’s history.
